Cordcutter Sports Schedule Week of July 18

How to Watch Tour de France and MLB Online

As we turn the corner in our Summer of Sports Series, we’ve hit a bit of a lull period. Aside from the usual baseball, there’s only a handful of events going on this week. But luckily, that doesn’t mean we’re short on entertainment. Here’s what we’ve got going on this week, all of which is available without a cable TV subscription:

How to Watch Major League Baseball Online

Taking a look at the list below, we have a number of great games on this week. The first thing you’re going to need is a streaming media player (if you don’t have one already). A streaming media player can take the form of a dedicated streaming box like the Roku, or even a smartphone or a laptop; doesn’t matter as long as you can stream online content, and have access to streaming apps that you prefer.

This Week’s Online MLB Schedule

  • July 20 – San Francisco Giants vs. Boston Red Sox, 7:10 PM, ESPN
  • July 21 – Milwaukee Brewers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates, 7:05 PM, Yahoo
  • July 22 – San Francisco Giants vs. New York Yankees, 7:05 PM, Yahoo
  • July 23 – Texas Rangers vs. Kansas City Royals, 7:15 PM, Fox Sports 1
  • July 24 – Los Angeles Dodgers vs. St. Louis Cardinals, 8:05 PM, ESPN

In order to catch the games being broadcast on Yahoo, you can go online to Sports.Yahoo.com OR you can download the Yahoo Sports app and watch on a mobile device. As far as watching the games on ESPN and Fox Sports, that’s where some decisions will need to be made.

There are two online services that will allow you to watch ESPN and Fox Sports and those are Sling TV and PlayStation Vue. To watch every baseball game this week on Sling TV, you’ll need to subscribe to their combined Orange and Blue package; which includes Fox Sports AND ESPN.

However, the $40 price tag might turn you off; unless you plan on making Sling TV a central part of your cord cutting arsenal. If you want to spend a little less money, you can get the Orange package for $20 and get the ESPN games OR you can spend $25 and get Fox Sports with the Blue package. If it were me, I would look at what other sports play on these channels, and pick the one that I know I will get the  most use out of.

A simpler option could be to go with PlayStation Vue, which gives you both ESPN and Fox Sports in its cheapest package, Access Slim. Instead of paying $40 a month like with Sling TV, you’ll end up paying $30; which is a far better price. But, do keep in mind that $20 is even better… so if you only care about ESPN, then Sling TV is the better option.

Tour de France

To watch the final stages of the Tour de France without cable, you’ll need a subscription to either Sling TV or PlayStation Vue. Sling TV offers the NBC Sports Network under its Blue subscription package, which costs $25 a month, while PlayStation Vue offers the channel under it’s Access package, which costs $30 a month.

If you’re just looking for the Tour de France, you might want to go with Sling TV. On the other hand, if you want to watch some of the games mentioned previously today, you might want to check out PlayStation Vue. The choice is all yours and both options are commitment free.

  • July 20 – Stage 17, 7 AM, NBC Sports Network
  • July 21 – Stage 18, 7:30 AM, NBC Sports Network
  • July 22 – Stage 19, 6:30 AM, NBC Sports Network
  • July 23 – Stage 20, 6:30 AM, NBC Sports Network
  • July 24 – Stage 21, 10 AM, NBC Sports Network
