New Niche Streaming Services: BritBox, Boomerang, FilmStruck

Cord cutting is bigger than ever and a host of new streaming services want to be your go-to service.

So let’s take a look at three hand-picked new services that are on the market today or are coming soon.

New Niche Streaming Services Available or Coming Soon

BritBox

BritBox offers a large lineup of British shows including dramas that have been unavailable in the United States such as “New Blood,” from novelist Anthony Horowitz, and “ Tutankhamun,” “The Moonstone,” and “In The Dark” from Ordinary Lies writer Danny Brocklehurst. Season premieres of “Cold Feet” and “Silent Witness” will also stream alongside popular Brit soaps such as “Eastenders,” “Emmerdale,” and “Holby City,” which will be available 24 hours after its UK broadcast.

The service is available on the web, AppleTV, iPhone, iPad, and Android mobile phones and tablets—with Roku and Chromecast compatibility slated to arrive shortly after launch. You can start a 7-day free trial, and it is $6.99 a month for a subscription.

Boomerang

If you love classic cartoons, Boomerang, the cable TV channel, hopes you will love its new on-demand streaming service.

Boomerang is a beloved brand that has always had multi-generational appeal and some of the greatest animated shows ever created,” said Christina Miller, president of Cartoon Network, Boomerang, and Adult Swim. “Our ongoing partnership with Warner Bros around this new premium service continues our strategy of making sure our fans are engaged with fresh and fun content whenever and wherever they want it.”

The ad-free SVOD service also will be the only place to watch new episodes of “Scooby-Doo,” “Looney Tunes,” and “Tom & Jerry.”

No date has been given for when it will launch, but it will be sometime in 2017.

FilmStruck

Now FilmStruck has been around for a few months but has not gotten the love it deserves.

FilmStruck is a new subscription on-demand service that offers film fans a comprehensive library of films including an eclectic mix of contemporary and classic art house, indie, foreign, and cult films. FilmStruck was created by the movie lovers at Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and The Criterion Collection, giving you access to some of the world’s greatest films, shown uncut and commercial-free, just as the directors intended.

There are three FilmStruck subscription plans to choose from:

  • FilmStruck Monthly Subscription for $6.99/month
  • FilmStruck + Criterion Channel Monthly Subscription for $10.99/month
  • FilmStruck + Criterion Channel Annual Subscription for $99.00/year

These are just some of the new services hitting the market right now or soon, and they are my hand-picked favorites.

I have had the opportunity to test out a ton of great cord cutting services and devices. Hopefully, from all my reviews, news, and how to’s someone has saved a lot of money. At the end of the day my goal is to see as many people as possible leave “cable” behind and find the freedom and savings cord cutting can give them.
