Mohu Antennas Love May Madness

May is a great month for watching OTA TV with a Mohu antenna (and be sure to check out our new Leaf Metro). May is “sweeps” month where the broadcast networks show the season finales of their “regular” season shows. But viewers won’t be stuck with a summer full of re-runs because the networks are also introducing new content in May.

crossbones-s1-keyart-xl1NBC is banking on some serious star power. John Malkovich stars as the pirate Blackbeard in Crossbones–The new legend of Blackbeard (Friday, May 30, 10/9c). Set in the Bahamas in 1715, Blackbeard tries to steal a chronometer from an English ship which has the potential to change seafaring and commerce. But the English aren’t giving in so easily and it’s up to the viewer to determine who the villain is–Blackbeard or the English. John Malkovich is outstanding as the villain in this YouTube trailer.

NBC_Rosemarys_Baby_miniseries_posterIn addition,  Zoe Saldana stars in NBC’s two part miniseries Rosemary’s Baby (May 11). In a new twist on Ira Levin’s 1967 thriller, Zoe Saldana and her husband Guy (Patrick J. Adams) leave New York City for a new life in Paris. At first, their arrival in Paris seems surrounded by good fortune. But when Rosemary becomes pregnant, she starts to believe that things are not what they seem and their new neighbors may have dark motives for her baby. Agnieszka Holland (Europa Europa, The Wire, Treme) directs this two-part psychological thriller. These shows and other great content are available free, over the air with a Mohu Leaf, Curve or Sky antenna. Broadcasters are producing great content for every night of the week and there’s no need to spend $70-$100 a month for cable. Join the growing numbers of cord-cutters and ditch your cable!

It's a Bird, It's a Plane…It's a Sky

SkyMohu makes great antennas to bring free OTA TV to your home. The Mohu Leaf was our first product and still one of our best-sellers. But our designers and engineers realized there was also a need for a whole-house antenna that could be mounted outside or in an attic. The Mohu Sky is the answer to that.  Like all of Mohu’s antennas, it’s a great looking answer to the  metal “lobster cage” design that is prevalent in the industry. In addition, because it is mounted higher it has better “line of sight” and can bring in better reception if your home is located in an area with terrain issues or between 50 and 60 miles from local television towers.

In addition, the Mohu Sky is multidirectional, meaning it does not need to be pointed in a specific direction to get reception. This allows the antenna to get reception from multiple TV towers. This is a huge benefit in the real world because in most areas different broadcasters use different towers. The Sky can also be connected to up to four TVs in one home without a loss of signal strength. Mohu’s 4-way Jolt acts as the “splitter” to split the signal and send it to different TVs. If your home had satellite or Dish TV in the past it’s possible that the coaxial cable used for that service is still in your house and then it’s simply a matter of mounting the Sky on your roof or attic and tying it into the existing coax line.

Leaf on wallIf that sounds too complicated, most regions have TV installers that will charge a fee but will get your Sky up and running. The Mohu website has the manual available for download prior to purchasing the Sky so you can see what’s involved. If you’re not ready to purchase a Sky, start small. Check out our TV For Free tool, which was recently updated with terrain data, and hook up a Leaf or Leaf Ultimate to your HDTV. Fall in love with the beautiful picture and when you’re ready for the Sky, we’ll have one waiting for you.

Why Kickstarter for Channels?

HDTV antenna, Indoor Antenna, antennaWe are so glad to see that the Mohu Channels Kickstarter campaign has surpassed its goal and a big THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed. Every dollar goes to making Mohu Channels a success. On Friday morning we are at $46,000 which is 132% of our goal!

Several folks have asked us, “Why use Kickstarter to launch Mohu Channels?” That is a totally fair question and one we’d like to answer. First of all, crowd funding is a new and cutting edge way to source funding for a new project. Crowdfunding is used for anything from fashion design, to high tech, to movie making. We wanted to be part of that because it allows new and established cord-cutters to help make Mohu Channels a reality. We’ve received great questions and feedback on Kickstarter and Facebook and love being able to interact one-on-one with customers.
