As the 2017 NFL Draft quickly approached, we thought it’d be a good idea to update our post from last year on how to watch the entire event without cable. It’s one of the most exciting events for NFL fans, especially since it falls after having to deal with no football for the last two months.
This is an opportunity to enjoy the NFL, even if it’s just for a few days well before the season starts. Here’s the details on how you can watch the NFL Draft without cable.
2017 NFL Draft Schedule
Coverage will be on ESPN, ESPN2, and NFL Network
Round 1: Thursday, April 27, 8 p.m. ET
Rounds 2-3: Friday, April 28, 7 p.m. ET
Rounds 4-7: Saturday, April 29, noon ET
Can you Watch the NFL Draft with Your Antenna?
Unfortunately, due to the channels that own the NFL Draft’s broadcast rights, you can’t watch live with your antenna. To be honest, this is one of the rare times an antenna isn’t incredibly helpful for an NFL fan.
The antenna is one of the most important tools to any cable cutter who wants to watch the NFL live during the season (and post season). That’s because you can watch live broadcasts of channels like NBC, FOX, and CBS (in uncompressed HD) with the antenna. That results in a ton of live football games to watch every single Sunday and many Thursday nights during the season.
Options to Stream the 2017 NFL Draft
Watch a Live Stream on Sling TV
Sling TV is a subscription streaming service, which has quickly gained popularity amongst cable cutters. The service is known for its flexibility and low starting price, which is $20 per month for its smallest package. Sling TV will in fact let you watch the entire draft live streaming on ESPN, ESPN2, and NFL network.
The best way to get all three is through the Sling Orange + Sling Blue package. It costs $40 per month and has more than 45 of the more popular cable channels to stream. There’s also a free trial on Sling TV, which would actually let you watch the NFL Draft free.
Use PlayStation Vue for a Live Stream
Sony’s streaming service, PlayStation Vue, is another option that also offers the channels you’ll need during the draft. You can sign up for the “Core” package on Vue to watch the entire draft live streaming. There are around 60 channels in total, including ESPN, ESPN2, NFL Network, FS1, FS2, NBCSN, and much more.
All of this only costs $35 per month. PlayStation Vue is definitely a great option for a full cable replacement, since there are so many great channels to watch. The cloud DVR feature on Vue may be helpful for you to record the draft to watch later. You can use the 5-day free trial on PlayStation Vue to watch the draft free.
Stream with DIRECTV NOW
DIRECTV NOW is a streaming service from AT&T. It will be helpful to watch most, but not all of the draft. You can watch ESPN and ESPN2, but not NFL Network at this time. The starting package costs $35 per month and offers more than 60 channels in total. The service can truly function as a full-fledged cable alternative due to its broad range of channels. You have another option to watch the draft free with DIRECTV NOW’s own weeklong trial.
Watch Free Online with NFL.com
You will likely be able to get some free coverage directly from the NFL during the draft at NFL.com. The site normally offers coverage of the picks along with predictions and analysis as the draft goes on. Unfortunately, this isn’t the same, full coverage from ESPN or NFL Network. But, it’s definitely a solid additional option that is absolutely free.
Hopefully, you’re now ready to watch the entire NFL Draft. You can even watch it for free, so you’ve got no excuses to miss it. Now, the next thing to get ready for is watching the NFL Preseason. It’s coming up quick, so get excited!
