NFL Schedule for Thursday Night Football Games: Dec 2017

Cord Cutter’s NFL Schedule for Thursdays in December

Thursday night is probably my favorite night of the week. After a long week of being deprived of NFL football, Thursday Night Football comes along, sweeps me off my feet, and delivers a life-saving dose of gridiron action for my enjoyment; along with the rest of the nation.

With only four weeks left in the regular season, you would think that Thursday Night Football would start to go the way of the Dodo, but you would be wrong. We’ve still got two more fantastic weeks of Thursday Night Football ahead of us in the month of December. Best of all you don’t need a cable subscription to tune in!

We’ll take a look at the last two Thursday Night Football games and show you how you can watch them without cable.

December 7 – New Orleans Saints vs. Atlanta Falcons, 8:25 PM, NBC/Amazon Prime

This Thursday Night match-up features two teams that are very much in control of their own destiny. Although both teams are unlikely to be at the top of odds maker’s Super Bowl favorite’s list, it’s still too early to count them out. In the last three meetings between the New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Falcons, the Falcons have won two out of three; but all three games were relatively close and usually boiled down to one team or the other making a mistake. Likewise, expect this game to remain competitive to the end; with plenty of big plays from the likes of Drew Brees and Julio Jones. You might not be looking at this year’s Super Bowl winners, but expect a good game nonetheless.

December 14 – Denver Broncos vs. Indianapolis Colts, 8:25 PM, NBC/Amazon Prime

Who doesn’t love a good rivalry game, especially when both teams aren’t doing so hot? Needless to say, it has been a bad year for horse-themed NFL teams, with both the Denver Broncos and the Indianapolis Colts giving disappointing performances all year long. In the last three meetings between the teams, the Colts have been victorious; but given the lackluster season, it’s anyone’s game. With a perplexing 3rd ranked defense, the Broncos just might have that competitive edge they need to come out on top. But then again if their offense can’t close the deal, what’s the point?

How to Watch Thursday Night Football in December without Cable

Since the last two Thursday Night Football games air on NBC, pretty much the only thing you need is a Mohu over-the-air (OTA) antenna. Mohu OTA antennas are priced right, sleek, and give you live access to all of your favorite broadcast networks, like NBC, for free (minus the cost of the antenna of course).

Despite the ubiquity of cable and online streaming, you would be surprised at how many of your favorite shows come from network television; so even if you don’t like football, an OTA antenna is a great choice for any cord cutter.

Indoor or Outdoor Antenna

As far as what kind of antenna you should get, that’s really up to you and your needs. If you live in an urban area, you might be able to get away with an indoor antenna that has a limited range. Someone in a rural area might need an outdoor antenna that has a range of 50 miles or more. If you’d like to know what broadcast networks are in your area, Mohu has a great tool that shows you what’s available in your area.

Once you’ve got your antenna, you’re good to go.

It’s also worth noting that if you already have a subscription to Amazon Prime, you can also live stream the game from the Amazon Instant Video app. Although it’s probably not worth the $99 yearly subscription price if all you want is to just watch two football games.
