How KilltheCableBill Enjoys Cable Free Entertainment<\/h2>\n

Antenna + Streaming Box + Streaming Services = Cable Freedom<\/h3>\n

One of the most popular questions I get from Kill the Cable Bill<\/a> readers is: \u201cWhat\u2019s your cord cutting setup?\u201d I love this question because there are so many ways I can answer it.<\/p>\n

Maybe you only use your laptop, maybe you stream from your Xbox, maybe you use both\u2026 and a phone, and a tablet, and a smart TV. Isn\u2019t it wonderful? There are so many ways to stream, and there are so many options for those looking for a cable TV alternative.<\/p>\n

As far as my cord cutting setup goes; I\u2019m a fan of the \u201cAll of the above\u201d approach, and I try to use and test out as many devices and services that I can. Let\u2019s start with something simple.<\/p>\n

Over the Air Antennas<\/h3>\n

The most essential part of any cord cutter\u2019s arsenal is an over-the-air antenna. For a small investment you can get thousands of hours of free television year after year. If you\u2019ve ever read my blog before, you know I\u2019m a huge fan of Mohu antennas<\/a>; so it\u2019s no wonder I use one in my house.<\/p>\n

Since my local network\u2019s tower is 20 miles away, I use the Mohu Sky Outdoor Antenna. It\u2019s a little bigger than a laptop and it has stood up to some nasty windstorms. That\u2019s not to say I haven\u2019t lost reception a time or two; but compared to my old bunny ears from back in the day, it\u2019s a godsend.<\/p>\n

Streaming Boxes<\/h3>\n

For most of my video streaming, I use a laptop, smartphone, tablet, a WD\u00a0Media Player (in the bedroom) and Mohu Channels<\/a>. Mohu Channels is awesome because I get all my OTA channels and my Netflix, Hulu etc\u2026 all within one interface. Makes it really easy to move from service to service, channel to channel.<\/p>\n

Channel surfing is not dead, but it has changed quite a bit. No longer do I flip from channel to channel with nothing on. Now I switch from program to program, and watch exactly what I want, when I want it, and it is always of superb quality.<\/p>\n

Sure, you can buy a DVD player that streams Netflix and YouTube; but if I can\u2019t get HBO Now or Amazon Prime on your device, you have lost my attention.<\/p>\n

Naturally, I also utilize my Samsung smartphone & tablet for most of my mobile streaming. It\u2019s seen better days, but it still runs as fast as the day I got it; and whenever I\u2019m catching up on a show on the road, it never lets me down.<\/p>\n

As I said earlier, I usually use my Mohu Channels for most of my streaming; but my Laptop has seen its share of video streaming as well. Although it doesn\u2019t have the app support like Roku does, it is nice to jump from a game to Hulu in only a couple of clicks.<\/p>\n

Streaming Services<\/h3>\n

As far as streaming services<\/a> go, once again I say \u201cAll of the above!\u201d I\u2019m subscribed to Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and am looking to sign up for Sling TV. I know it all sounds expensive, but surprisingly it\u2019s still a lot cheaper than having cable. I would also have HBO Now, but I just have not signed up yet.<\/p>\n
