Mounting an Antenna: Do's and Don'ts

Weighing in at only 3 pounds, the Sky HDTV Antenna is a powerful, amplified antenna solution that was developed from research for the United States military. The antenna design is unlike anything that you will find in texts, literature or competitor’s products. Similar to the Leaf and Leaf Ultimate, the Sky is multidirectional and does not have to be constantly readjusted for optimal signal strength.

Sky HDTV Antenna Mounting

1. DO perform a TV Fool signal strength reading to determine optimal placement:

Based on your proximity to a broadcast tower there may be a preferred location to mount your antenna. If you have questions during this process, call our customer support and they will be happy to assist you.

2. DON’T mount your Sky in a basement or lower level:

Elevation is essential when finding the ideal mounting location. The mounting hardware included with your antenna should be used to maximize signal reception.

3. DO mount your Sky as elevated as possible:

The Sky was designed to be mounted on your roof, in your attic, or as close to the ceiling as possible. If you have aluminum siding or a metal roof, be sure to mount the Sky outside away from the siding or above the metal roof if possible. However, it is possible some blockage or scattering of signals may occur.

4. DON’T trap your antenna with any type of interference:

This includes any object (especially metal) that would potentially block a signal from reaching the antenna. In order to have maximum reception, don’t mount the antenna in or near storage areas in attic. Boxes, furniture, clothes and other items near or around your antenna can have an effect on performance.

5. DO mount your antenna in the upright position:

For maximum performance we recommend mounting the Sky straight up with the cable hanging down.

  • Mount your Sky as elevated as possible to optimize reception.
  • Check your insulation as some contains metal film that will cause interference.
  • Mount near a window if you have one or on the roof if possible.
