How to Watch the Sweet 16 as a Cord Cutter

With the Big Game in full swing, the next exciting step is the Sweet 16! The nation’s top college basketball teams will then face off to become the Elite Eight. From there, it’s just a few short games until the champion is crowned. With the upsets we’ve already seen last week, you won’t want to miss a minute of these showdowns.

If you don’t have a cable subscription, you might be wondering how to catch all the games. But there’s good news: even the most dedicated cord-cutters can tune in to the Sweet 16. You just have to know where to look.

Watch with an Antenna

The cheapest way to watch any NCAA round is via antenna. Many of the games during the Sweet 16 are broadcast on CBS, which can be accessed with an antenna almost anywhere in the country. Mohu’s indoor Leaf 50 is a strong choice with a solid range and a low price. The best part? Once you buy an antenna, you won’t have to pay monthly subscription fees! That means you’ll be able to watch this Sweet 16 and all the content that comes after with no extra cost.

But, only half of the Sweet 16 games will be shown on CBS. TBS is broadcasting the other games. You’ll need to supplement your antenna with a streaming service to catch every game. Even if you do have access to all the channels March Madness will be on, the games will overlap, so you’ll probably have to miss some parts. That said, there may still be fans out there who can’t bear the thought of missing a single second. For those fans, use a supplementary streaming service or OTA DVR to get full access.

Use a Streaming Service

With monthly prices ranging between $35 and $40, Hulu with Live TV, DIRECTV NOW, Sling TV, and PlayStation Vue are significantly cheaper than most cable subscriptions. All four options include TBS, so any service would be a good choice to supplement with your antenna if you’re looking to watch every possible game.

NCAA March Madness App

If you’re watching away from home, the official NCAA app is a great way to catch the Sweet 16. However, you’ll need login credentials to access the app’s live content, so if you have cut the cord, your best option is a subscription to PlayStation Vue—its login credentials can be used as well.

No matter how you choose to watch, you won’t want to miss the Sweet 16. If you haven’t already, set up your digital antenna and whatever other add-ons you choose and tune in to one of the most exciting events in college sports!
